    Description

    This offering is for a
    brass mortar and pestle
    (used). It is quite a handsome apothecary tool that will look great on display.
    It has the likeness of Dr. John Morgan (a founder of the 1
    st
    medical school in Colonial America) and his birth/death dates (1735 – 1789) stamped on one side of the mortar with the words
    “Secundum Artem”
    (Latin: according to the standard) stamped on the base. The other side has an RX stamp with “Secundum Artem” stamped around the base.
    It measures approximately 4-1/8” in height with the diameter measuring approximately 4-3/4” at the top and 3-1/2” at the base. Pestle measure approximately 5-3/8”.
