The large 5 pound mushroom is very large, please check the tape measure in the picture to get a feel for size.
* The center pieces will have no
dark
outer layer, so it makes a lighter color tea..
*  In the pictures you can see the weight, but also as a guide to the
size of each mushroom
as the scale measures 8 inches across.
* Chaga mushrooms grow from the center of the tree through the bark so there is always some bark on every mushroom.
The day the mushrooms are harvested, I
chop off most of the bark from the mushroom before chopping them into smaller chunks for drying. I offer those bark free chunks and grounds in another listing. This is a link to that listing:

For this listing
I take those Chaga pieces that have bark on them and remove as much bark as I can. It's difficult time consuming work but I am not able remove it all so there will be some bark in the coarse grounds offered here. Because the grounds contain a very
small
amount
of bark I reduced the price, and I
also add a little extra to your order (see pictures) so you will receive an even better deal.

The coarse ground will contain a small amount of bark, but it has very little powder in it so it looks like very small pebbles as shown in the picture.
I hand screen
the coarse ground
through a fine mesh stainless steel sieve
to remove most of the powder
.
Although this process
takes a lot of time and is dusty work,
its worth it because it dramatically
reduces powder resulting in a
low sediment tea.
You can, after
using
it, drain and dry it, then freeze the grounds and use them
again several times before the
nutrients
are
depleted
. So a little goes a long way.

Because the bark was attached to the dark outer layer of the mushroom
there is a
high concentration of the
dark outer layer
in these
course
grounds.
Using a little makes a very
dark tea.
If you decide to put the grounds in a crock pot all the grounds will
initially
float because they are dry, but after a while the solid grounds will sink and the bark will continue to float. Just skim the few pieces of bark off with a fork or small screen if you choose to.
