Description
A beautiful collectible set of four U.S. postage stamps issued in 1972 to honor the Osteopathic profession at the time of the 75th anniversary of the American Osteopathic Association.Osteopathy is a healing art that began in America. Dr. Dr. Andrew T. Still (1828-1917), became dissatisfied with the medical methods of the day and founded the first college for the new treatment technique at Kirksville, Missouri in 1892. Having lost three children to an epidemic of spinal meningitis in 1864, Dr. Still was moved to develop the medicine which, in contrast to orthodox medicine, places emphasis on the relationship between the musculo-skeletal structure and organ function. In 1972, there were 13,000 such physicians in the U.S., and the science had spread abroad as well.
These stamps have never been used and are as fresh as they were the day they were first sold at the post office almost 50 years ago!
Suitable for framing, they would make a great gift for your favorite osteopath or coworker.
